Laying bare the truth of the Gospel and making it plain to the Seeker

2 Timothy 4:2

Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage —with great patience and careful instruction.

Explaining is the third of the four fins a man of God employs as an Agitator to stir other men into action. First, he Embodies Christ to set the example for the Seeker. Second, he Engages with the Seeker to build a relationship with him. Third, he Explains the Gospel to help the Seeker learn who Christ is.

For a Seeker to move to Discipleship, the Gospel must become his transcendent fundamental and spiritual reality. But before he can have faith that it is the infallible word of God, he must know what it is. It is not enough for the Agitator to simply Embody Christ without explaining who He is and why His Gospel is the the true and reliable word of God that will not lead him astray.

God has never intended for the Gospel to be kept hidden, like a lamp beneath a bowl. The Agitator is to share it so that the Seeker may know the joyful freedom of living in its truth. To share truth, a man of God must be willing to patiently reveal it to the Seeker who is traveling the same rocky path of doubt that he once trod. Otherwise, it would be like handing a man a book written in a foreign language.

To transform the Seeker into a Disciple who dedicates his life to knowing Christ, imitating Christ, and following Christ the Agitator must always be ready to Explain who Christ is through the Gospel. To do that effectively, he must study it himself and ingrain it in his heart through prayer, and memorization.
