Rest, retrain, and recommit in order to return to the battle restored
Isaiah 40:31
But those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
Reluctantly, a military commander will sometimes retreat from the battlefield when confronted with a superior enemy. There are times when that might be necessary due to surprise, but it should never be for lack of preparation.
There also times when a commander will remove a singular unit from the battlefield temporarily after sustained engagement with the enemy, so that it may rest, retrain, and recommit to the fight. This is not a retreat but a Refit.
It is the same for men of God. In our daily lives we are engaged with the Splitter, the enemy who separates men from God and men from men. The Splitter prowls the World like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. To continue to resist him and the World that is temporarily under his dominion we must be at our best.
Periodically then, men of God must pull themselves off the battle line as a unit to Refit. This is in no way a retreat for the enemy is in no way superior, equipped as we are with God’s full armor. But over time, our armor can become dented and develop chinks through which evil may penetrate—if we do not Refit.
For while the war is won, the battle is ongoing.
Rest, retrain, and recommit in order to return to the battle restored
