REFIT

Reluctantly, a military commander will retreat from the battlefield when confronted with a superior enemy. There are times when that might be necessary due to surprise, but it should never be for lack of preparation.

There also times when a commander will remove a unit from the battlefield temporarily after sustained engagement with the enemy, so that it may rest, rearm, retrain, and return to the fight restored. This is not a retreat but a refit.

It is the same for men of God. In our daily lives we are engaged with the Splitter, the enemy who separates men from God and men from men. The Splitter prowls the World like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. To continue to resist him, we must be alert and of sober mind.

Periodically then, men of God pull themselves off the battle line to refit. This is in no way a retreat for the enemy is in no way superior, equipped as we are with the full armor of God. But over time, that armor can become dented and develop chinks through which evil may penetrate—if we do not refit.

So, like a military unit pulled from the line to rest, rearm, retrain, and return to the fight restored, men of God who have joined together to fight for God must also undertake to refit.

For while the war is won, the battle is ongoing.
