12:2 The good man & favor: one verse held us the whole morning. "A good man obtains favor from the Lord" — but who among us is good? None (Rom 3). So "good" is descriptive of Christ alone (Mark 10:18, "no one is good but God alone") and aspirational for the rest of us. We're born in sin through Adam.

What good is the law, then? It exposes sin and points to the Savior; it can't save (Rom 5:20; Ps 119:72; Matt 5:17). Picture it as scaffolding on the heart — it comes down once the building stands in Christ, but God's will is still God's will.

The favor isn't a transaction. Not "do good, get paid." A righteous man can serve, love his kids, do everything right and still get shot in front of his little girl — that's not God withdrawing favor. Favor is the gladness of a love that helps without tallying a return.

Aspiration = movement. A real desire implies action — not the hollow corporate "aspirational" (wanting with no motion). Faith breeds works. The reward (Matt 6) is life and peace, not salvation earned.

"He condemns" the schemer: condemnation like condemned property — taken. Favor withdrawn; peace, health, wealth, relationships shut out.

12:3 The root that holds: nothing wicked gets established; the righteous root is never moved. Ties back to the integrity run.

The real thread: a brother laid his anxiety on the block — fear of losing everything. Matt 6:34, don't worry about tomorrow; daily bread is for the day. Control as an idol. It landed in Gethsemane (Mark 14:36) — talk to God plainly, as Abba/daddy, lay out the real fear, then hand over the will. "I used to live in the attic. I'm not living in the attic anymore."
