At some point in a man’s life his struggle must shift from discovering what is right to consistently doing what is right

Good parents will start their children off in the way they should go by teaching them right from wrong, but a child who does not receive that instruction must discover what is right outside of the home.

In either case, it is the same lessons because righteousness exists independently from the time, place, and manner of its instruction. And failure to learn those lessons will have the same outcome regardless of a child’s relative disadvantages. If he does not discover what is right, he will not build character, and it is character that is his primary defense against the World.

And yet, the discovery of what is right will do a man no good unless he puts it into practice. If he knows that honesty is right but continues to tell lies when it serves his purposes he has gained nothing. His lack of character will expose him to the World. In fact, it would be better for him if he had never learned the truth because at least then he would have an explanation.

At some point in a man’s life his struggle must shift from discovering what is right to consistently doing what is right
