If a man cannot explain his belief system without invoking politics, then politics are his belief system

A man’s beliefs define where he stands. They are the resolute answers to the questions he has pondered throughout his life about the universe and his place in it.

Some men find their beliefs in an immutable source outside of the influence of man. For such men, it does not matter how many other men believe likewise. For them, truth is self-evident and not subject to plebiscite. Their concern is what is and has always been true.

For other men, beliefs are malleable over time and place. For them, what was true yesterday might not be true today and what is true in one place today might not be true in another tomorrow. For such men, it is not what has always been true that matters but rather what most people think should be true now. Their concern is what could be true if only there was sufficient political will to make it so.

Regardless of the source, a man’s belief system is the integration of his most profoundly held beliefs. If he believes in it, he should be able to explain it, but if a man cannot explain his belief system without invoking politics, then politics are his belief system.
